Seminar / Research Practice

3rd-year seminar

Learning team development from scratch

A seminar where students learn software development as a team from the basics and build apps and features that actually work. Their work is also featured in the project materials.

Goal

With little development experience, it is hard to understand on your own the whole flow of setting requirements, dividing roles, implementing, and testing.

What you do

Using topics such as game development, new features for MUM, and a Fashion AI app, teams discuss and work through design, implementation, and presentation.

What you'll gain

You gain the ability to develop as a team, turn ideas into working products, and explain what you have built.

Seminar / Research

4th-year & master's seminar

Turning your interests into research

A seminar where students choose a topic they are interested in, such as security, software development, or reliability, and pursue it in depth as research.

Goal

Graduation and master's research require more than building things: you need to find problems, survey related work, organize results, and communicate them to others.

What you do

Students work through topic setting, literature review, experiments or development, analysis of results, and presentation practice. When results come together, they actively take on conference submissions.

What you'll gain

You gain the ability to drive research on your own, explain specialized content, and experience discussing it with people outside the lab.

Seminar / Security

Security seminar

A seminar on vulnerability assessment and security technology

A seminar on the security of web, IoT, and networks, where students learn which points are easy to attack and how to think about defending them.

Goal

Security takes more than knowledge: you need the eye to spot what is actually risky and a design mindset that prevents attacks.

What you do

Through vulnerability assessment, inspecting logs and traffic, and studying existing cases, students deepen their understanding from both the attacker's and the defender's perspective.

What you'll gain

You gain the fundamentals of building secure web apps and systems, along with the ability to explain and verify risks.

Seminar / Development

Development seminar

A hands-on seminar building apps and support tools

A seminar where students learn development by building things people actually use, such as creating and running this website, the Fashion AI app, and updates to MUM.

Goal

Apps and websites are not finished once built: they need to be adjusted for their users, gain new features, and be maintained over time.

What you do

Using this lab website, Fashion AI, MUM, and more, teams work through requirements, UI improvements, implementation, testing, and updates.

What you'll gain

By improving real services, you build development and operations skills and the ability to move forward through team discussion.
